Giants vs Diamondbacks

Injury Report

Giants
  • Daniel SusacIR
    Expected return: May 6

Susac was placed on the 10-day injured list April 21 (retroactive to April 20) and is expected to miss two to three weeks due to right elbow neuritis. The 24-year-old catcher has impressed early this season, slashing .478/.500/.652 with five RBI and a run scored across 24 plate appearances in 11 outings. Susac may return to splitting reps behind the plate with Patrick Bailey once cleared, but for now, Eric Haase will continue serving as Bailey's backup.

  • Erik MillerIR
    Expected return: May 16

Miller was called upon with two outs in the eighth inning and delivered a clean outing, retiring all four batters he faced to secure the victory for the Giants. It marked the southpaw's second save of the season, trailing only Ryan Walker, who leads the team with three saves, as manager Tony Vitello has deployed a closer-by-committee approach. Miller has now strung together seven consecutive scoreless outings and owns a 3.48 ERA and 1.35 WHIP with a 16:6 K:BB across 10.1 innings in 2026.

  • Harrison BaderIR
    Expected return: May 8

Bader has been working through a left hamstring strain that caused him to be placed on the Giants' 10-day injured list in mid-April. He has progressed enough in his recovery to embark on a rehab assignment, and how his hamstring reacts to a more intense workload will dictate when he'll be cleared to return to the majors.

  • Hayden BirdsongIR
    Expected return: Jun 1

Birdsong was diagnosed with a sprained UCL in mid-March and elected to go under the knife. The right-hander will miss the entirety of the 2026 campaign and likely at least the first couple months of 2027.

  • Jared OlivaIR
    Expected return: Jun 15

The common recovery timeline for this type of procedure is 4-to-6 weeks, so Oliva will be out until mid-May even in a best-case scenario. He is 1-for-7 at the plate this season in his limited opportunities for the Giants.

  • Jose ButtoIR
    Expected return: Feb 1

Butto previously had a blood clot removed from his arm, and his latest procedure will require 5-to-6 months of rehab, meaning he won't be able to make it back before the end of the season. He'll end 2026 with five earned runs allowed over just two innings.

  • Randy RodriguezIR
    Expected return: Feb 1

The transaction frees a spot on the 40-man roster for Luis Arraez, whose signing was officially announced Tuesday. Rodriguez underwent Tommy John surgery last September and will miss the entire 2026 season.

  • Reiver SanmartinIR
    Expected return: Jun 9

The southpaw will be sidelined until June after suffering a right hip flexor strain earlier this month. Once healthy, Sanmartin is not a given to return to the active roster with the big club.

Diamondbacks
  • Andrew SaalfrankIR
    Expected return: Feb 1

Saalfrank underwent surgery Monday to repair the left labrum in his shoulder and has already been placed on the 60-day injured list. The rehab timeline gives the lefty a chance to be ready for the start of the 2027 season, but it is not a given.

  • Carlos SantanaIR
    Expected return: May 9

Santana has been sidelined since April 5 due to a right adductor strain. He was struggling badly at the plate early in the season, going 2-for-24 with a double, one run scored and 2:8 BB:K across 26 plate appearances prior to the injury.

  • Jordan LawlarIR
    Expected return: Jun 3

The 23-year-old was given a 6-to-8-week recovery timeline after fracturing his right wrist last week, but the move to the 60-day IL guarantees he will be on the shelf until at least early June. Prior to suffering the injury, Lawlar was off to a hot start this season, going 6-for-18 with a double, a home run and a steal across 20 plate appearances.

  • Pavin SmithIR
    Expected return: May 29

The bone chips were the cause of the inflammation that Smith began experiencing during spring training. A timeline for his return for his return was not given, but he's currently on the 60-day injured list and can't be reinstated until May 29.

  • Jeff BrighamDay-to-day
    Expected return: May 5

Brigham made four relief appearances for the Diamondbacks last season, yielding three runs over 3.1 innings. He'll turn 34 in February and has collected a 4.85 ERA over 94 appearances (four starts) covering parts of six big-league seasons. Brigham is likely to begin the 2026 season as relief depth at Triple-A Iowa.

  • Rene PintoDay-to-day
    Expected return: May 9

Pinto slashed .231/.263/.404 during parts of three seasons with the Rays from 2022-2024. He spent the 2025 campaign in the minors split between the Blue Jays and Diamondbacks organizations, hitting .259/.309/.498 with 12 homers in 64 games. Pinto will provide the Phillies with some experienced catching depth.
