Injury Report

Giants
  • Daniel SusacIR
    Expected return: May 1

Susac has gone 11-for-23 at the plate in the big leagues this season and seemed to be on his way toward splitting reps behind the plate with Patrick Bailey, but the former will now have to wait at least 10 days before he gets another opportunity to start. Eric Haase will come up from Triple-A Sacramento to give the Giants depth at catcher.

  • Harrison BaderIR
    Expected return: Apr 28

It helps explain why he's out of the Giants' lineup Tuesday for the second straight game. Bader first tweaked his hamstring less than a week before Opening Day, and it seems the injury is still bothering him. It could at least partly explain the veteran outfielder's lackluster .115/.145/.192 batting line in his first 15 contests this season. At this point, it does not seem the injured list is under consideration for Bader. Jared Oliva is starting in center field and batting ninth Tuesday in Cincinnati in Bader's absence.

  • Hayden BirdsongIR
    Expected return: Jun 1

Birdsong was diagnosed with a sprained UCL in mid-March and elected to go under the knife. The right-hander will miss the entirety of the 2026 campaign and likely at least the first couple months of 2027.

  • Jared OlivaIR
    Expected return: Jun 1

The common recovery timeline for this type of procedure is 4-to-6 weeks, so Oliva will be out until mid-May even in a best-case scenario. He is 1-for-7 at the plate this season in his limited opportunities for the Giants.

  • Jose ButtoIR
    Expected return: Feb 1

Butto previously had a blood clot removed from his arm, and his latest procedure will require 5-to-6 months of rehab, meaning he won't be able to make it back before the end of the season. He'll end 2026 with five earned runs allowed over just two innings.

  • Randy RodriguezIR
    Expected return: Feb 1

The transaction frees a spot on the 40-man roster for Luis Arraez, whose signing was officially announced Tuesday. Rodriguez underwent Tommy John surgery last September and will miss the entire 2026 season.

  • Reiver SanmartinIR
    Expected return: Jun 9

The southpaw will be sidelined until June after suffering a right hip flexor strain earlier this month. Once healthy, Sanmartin is not a given to return to the active roster with the big club.

Dodgers
  • Ben CaspariusIR
    Expected return: Apr 28

Casparius wore many hats for the Dodgers in 2025, making starts, bulk relief appearances, long relief outings and high-leverage appearances. He finished with a 4.64 ERA and 71:21 K:BB over 77.2 regular-season frames. Slated to turn 27 later this week, Casparius is a long shot to open 2026 in the rotation, given the Dodgers' other options that are ahead of him on the depth chart, but he'll stay stretched out just in case.

  • Edwin DiazIR
    Expected return: Jul 17

Diaz's surgery was a procedure to remove loose bodies from his right elbow. The star closer is projected to be sidelined through the All-Star break, at minimum. Tanner Scott, Alex Vesia and Blake Treinen are among the candidates to pick up save chances for Los Angeles for however long Diaz remains out of action.

  • Gavin StoneIR
    Expected return: May 22

Stone was diagnosed with inflammation in his surgically repaired right shoulder during spring training and was shut down from throwing for several weeks. Tests confirmed that there's no structural damage in the shoulder, and the right-hander has since been cleared to begin a throwing program. Dodgers manager Dave Roberts said Wednesday -- the same day Stone was moved to the 60-day IL -- that the hurler is essentially going to need to ramp up as if he's restarting spring.

  • Landon KnackIR
    Expected return: Apr 27

Knack wasn't known to be dealing with an injury coming out of spring training, and it's unclear how long he might be sidelined to begin the season. He was roughed up for eight runs over 6.2 innings during Cactus League play, which had effectively took him out of the running for a spot on the Opening Day pitching staff. The Dodgers are dealing with multiple injuries in their rotation, so Knack could get some starts if his injury doesn't prove to be a long-term concern.

  • Mookie BettsIR
    Expected return: May 4

Betts has been sidelined since early April due to a right oblique strain. The star shortstop resumed swinging a bat about two weeks later and has continued to take batting practice in the cage. Manager Dave Roberts said Friday that Betts is in line to start a rehab stint either during the coming weekend or the following week, so a return to the big-league roster during the first half of May appears to be feasible.

  • Max MuncyDay-to-day
    Expected return: Apr 27

Muncy started Saturday despite feeling under the weather and clubbed an early homer before being lifted in the fourth inning. The ailment apparently isn't responsible for Muncy's absence from the lineup Sunday, however, as he was scheduled for a day off versus Chicago lefty Shota Imanaga. Santiago Espinal is picking up a start at third base in the series finale.

  • Will SmithDay-to-day
    Expected return: Apr 27

The veteran backstop was held out of the lineup Saturday due to back tightness and was expected to rejoin the lineup Sunday, but the Dodgers will instead give him an extra day to recover. Manager Dave Roberts said the injured list isn't currently being considered and indicated that Smith could play Sunday, if necessary. Dalton Rushing will pick up a second straight start behind the plate for the Dodgers.
