Injury Report
- Clay HolmesIRExpected return: Aug 25
The right-hander was recently shut down from all activities for 6-to-8 weeks due to a fractured right fibula, so it's hardly a surprise he's been moved to the 60-day IL. Holmes is expected to require about a month to build back up to game readiness once fully recovered, so he'll likely be sidelined until at least mid-August.
- Francisco AlvarezIRExpected return: Jul 16
On Wednesday, the Mets provided an initial timetable of 6-to-8 weeks, but after the operation was performed, the expectation now is that Alvarez will need the full eight weeks to recover. Luis Torrens will serve as the Mets' primary catcher while Alvarez is shelved, and Hayden Senger will be the backup.
- Francisco LindorIRExpected return: Jun 18
An MRI last week showed that Lindor's left calf strain is healing, but not yet to the point that he has been cleared for baseball activities. The star shortstop has already been sidelined for nearly one month of action, and he still has approximately one more month to go. New York has been utilizing Bo Bichette at shortstop and Brett Baty at third base of late while Lindor remains shelved.
- Jared YoungIRExpected return: May 25
Young played two games in the Florida State League last week, going 1-for-6 with a walk and a run scored while playing six total innings in the field at first base. The 30-year-old Young -- who is making his way back from mid-April surgery to address minor meniscus tear in his left knee -- could push for playing time at first base, designated hitter or in the corner outfield once the Mets bring him back from the 10-day injured list.
- Jorge PolancoIRExpected return: May 25
The veteran infielder is taking part in baseball activities, but it's pain tolerance will determine when he's ready for game action. "Hopefully it goes away, but it's something he's probably going to have to manage," manager Carlos Mendoza said Sunday. Polanco has been sidelined since April 14, so he'll likely require a minor-league rehab assignment before coming off the IL.
- Justin HagenmanIRExpected return: May 27
It's unclear when Hagenman sustained the injury, but his placement on the 60-day IL means that he won't be eligible to make his 2026 regular-season debut until at least late May. In a corresponding move to bolster the bullpen, the Mets claimed southpaw Richard Lovelady off waivers from the Nationals.
- Kodai SengaIRExpected return: Jun 2
While the right-hander's line in the box score wasn't particularly impressive, Senga built up to 63 pitches (36 strikes) in his first rehab start, suggesting his return isn't far away. He landed on the 15-day injured list after a rough stretch to end April, coughing up 16 earned runs in just 8.1 innings over his last three big-league outings. If he needs only one more rehab start, Senga could be in line to rejoin the Mets rotation during the club's first series of June in Seattle.
- Luis Robert Jr.IRExpected return: Jun 9
The decision to call up A.J. Ewing earlier Tuesday was no doubt related to Robert's slow recovery from a lumbar spine disc herniation. Robert has not been cleared to resume baseball activities and appears ticketed for an extended absence. In the meantime, Ewing will get an opportunity to nail down the center-field job for the Mets.
- Ronny MauricioIRExpected return: Jun 15
New York hasn't issued a timeline for Mauricio's return, but after fracturing his left thumb while diving into first base during Saturday's 4-3 loss to the Angels, the young infielder will be surely miss more than the minimum 10 days. The Mets called up Vidal Brujan to provide another option at shortstop while Mauricio and Francisco Lindor (calf) are on the shelf, but Bo Bichette will start at the position in Sunday's series finale in Anaheim and could end up seeing the bulk of the playing time at that spot in the short term.
- Kevin HergetDay-to-dayExpected return: Jun 2
Herget was designated for assignment by the Mets in late September and became a free agent a few days later. He's now back with the club and will battle for a spot in the team's bullpen during spring training.
- German MarquezIRExpected return: Jun 8
Marquez landed on the 15-day injured list May 3 due to right forearm nerve irritation. He resumed throwing in mid-May and has since been able to return to mound work. If he continues to progress without any setbacks, Marquez could be back with San Diego sometime in June, though he'll likely need a minor-league rehab stint first.
- Jake CronenworthIRExpected return: May 23
It has not been revealed when or how Cronenworth suffered a concussion. The veteran infielder has had a rough season thus far with an OPS of just .498 and a .077/.200./.077 slash line over the last seven days as of Tuesday. The Padres recalled Sung-Mun Song in a corresponding move.
- Luis CampusanoIRExpected return: May 29
Campusano is dealing with a small fracture in his toe that he sustained when he fouled a ball off his foot May 5. The backstop seems to have made significant progress in recent days, though he'll presumably need to get in a minor-league rehab stint before he's activated off the IL. It's possible that Campusano will make it back to the Padres before the end of May, but an early-June return seems more likely.
- Matt WaldronIRExpected return: Jun 5
Waldron landed on the IL last Friday due to a right brachialis muscle injury. He had initially been slated to be designated for assignment, as Waldron lost hold of his spot in the rotation after Lucas Giolito was cleared to make his team debut. If Waldron remains with the club after he gets healthy, he'll likely be asked to work out of the bullpen, barring injuries to other starters reopening a spot in the rotation. Over six appearances (three starts) with San Diego so far in 2026, Waldron has posted a 8.49 ERA and 1.71 WHIP over 23.1 innings.
- Nick PivettaIRExpected return: Jun 15
Per Annie Heilbrunn of the San Diego Sports Association, Stammen believes that Pivetta is looking at "weeks, maybe months" of rehab and rest. That kind of timeline indicates that Pivetta will be out of action until the summer, potentially through the All-Star break in mid-July. Matt Waldron (lower body) is slated to take Pivetta's spot in the rotation later this week once the former is activated from the 15-day IL.
- Jackson MerrillDay-to-dayExpected return: May 23
As expected, Merrill will not be in Friday's lineup after sustaining a rib injury while colliding with the outfield wall during Wednesday's game against the Dodgers. Ramon Laureano, Bryce Johnson and Nick Castellanos will man the outfield from left to right for San Diego in Merrill's absence.
