Padres vs Brewers

Estrada landed on the injured list April 10 due to tightness in his right elbow. The righty reliever resumed playing catch shortly thereafter and is now pitching in games again. Estrada tossed a clean inning with one strikeout in his first rehab appearance Friday and may not need a lengthy stint in the minors before he's brought back up to the big-league bullpen.

Per Annie Heilbrunn of the San Diego Sports Association, Stammen believes that Pivetta is looking at "weeks, maybe months" of rehab and rest. That kind of timeline indicates that Pivetta will be out of action until the summer, potentially through the All-Star break in mid-July. Matt Waldron (lower body) is slated to take Pivetta's spot in the rotation later this week once the former is activated from the 15-day IL.

Wagner suffered a strained right oblique in early March after appearing in just five Cactus League contests. He seems to be showing improvement but hasn't yet set out on a rehab assignment. It's unclear if there will be room for Wagner on the big-league roster when he's back to full health.

Machado made an early exit from Monday's game due to a leg injury, and although manager Craig Stammen said after the game that the 33-year-old third baseman is fine, the Padres will keep him on the bench Tuesday as a precaution. Jake Cronenworth will make his first career start at the hot corner as a result, moving Fernando Tatis to second base and giving Bryce Johnson a start in right field.

Baddoo suffered a quadriceps strain in mid-March that was more significant than initially expected, and it will sideline him for at least the first two months of the regular season. Even once healthy, the 27-year-old won't be guaranteed to be added to the big-league roster.

Vaughn has been sidelined since fracturing his left hamate bone Opening Day and requiring surgery. As long as the first baseman doesn't encounter any setbacks with Nashville, he is slated to return from the 10-day injured list May 4 versus the Cardinals. Jake Bauers has fared well as the Brewers' primary first baseman, and with Christian Yelich (groin) slated to miss a couple more weeks, there's room for both Bauers and Vaughn in the lineup.

Yelich landed on the shelf April 14 with a left groin strain and was given an initial recovery timeline of 4-to-6 weeks, and he has apparently progressed as expected thus far. Gary Sanchez has operated as Milwaukee's primary designated hitter with Yelich on the shelf, but Tyler Black has also picked up a couple starts since getting promoted from Triple-A Nashville on Friday.

Chourio will play a few games with Nashville before making his season debut May 4 against the Cardinals, if all goes well. The outfielder has been sidelined all season while recovering from left hamate bone surgery.

Koenig has been shelved for three-plus weeks with a sprained left elbow. Given the nature of the injury, the southpaw reliever will be brought along slowly. The Brewers do not expect Koenig to be ready to return until late May or early June.

The 34-year-old lefty sustained the injury during his rehab assignment over the weekend while working his way back from a shoulder strain. Zastryzny will be sidelined for at least a couple more weeks as he contends with the new injury.
