Rangers vs Angels

Friday, May 22, 2026 at 6:38 PM PDT — Angel Stadium

Injury Report

Rangers
  • Carter BaumlerIR
    Expected return: May 8

Baumler's fastball touched 97 mph during the outing, per MLB.com, which is encouraging. The Rangers want the right-hander to throw on back-to-back days before he rejoins the club.

  • Chris MartinIR
    Expected return: May 15

It will be the first time Martin has faced live hitters since biceps soreness sent him to the injured list in mid-April. Assuming he doesn't suffer any setbacks, he may be cleared to begin a rehab assignment in the minor leagues early next week.

  • Josh SmithIR
    Expected return: May 15

It's unclear when Smith was injured, as he played all nine innings of the Rangers' last game Sunday against the Tigers. He will be eligible for activation May 15, though the club did not reveal a timetable for Smith's return to action. Ezequiel Duran will serve as the Rangers' primary second baseman while Smith is shelved.

  • Luis CurveloIR
    Expected return: May 12

Curvelo threw just two pitches Tuesday before leaving the game with an injury, and he's now set to miss at least the next 15 days as well. With Chris Martin (biceps) also landing on the IL on Wednesday, Gavin Collyer and Cal Quantrill will come up from the minors to fill the openings in Texas' pitching staff.

  • Robert GarciaIR
    Expected return: May 22

Garcia is seeing improvement in his shoulder every time he throws, but he is still dealing with some discomfort and isn't close to returning to Texas' bullpen. The Rangers may offer an update on his return timeline after he is cleared to resume mound work.

  • Wyatt LangfordIR
    Expected return: May 15

Langford had been on track to return to the lineup Saturday but was pulled from his first game at extended spring training Thursday after aggravating his injured forearm in his first at-bat. He said afterward that his forearm felt like it did when he first strained it, so the Rangers will play it safe and allow him to rest for a while. An updated timeline for his return could emerge once he's cleared to resume activities.

  • Brandon NimmoDay-to-day
    Expected return: May 6

The 33-year-old has been battling a lingering hamstring injury and returned to the lineup Sunday after missing one game, but he's now on the bench after Monday's team off day. It hasn't been reported that Nimmo has suffered a setback, but it seems likely that he's still managing the injury in some form.

  • Peyton GrayDay-to-day
    Expected return: May 9

Gray's exit appeared precautionary, but the Rangers should have more on his status after the game. The reliever was charged with one run on two hits and a walk over one inning of work before departing.

Angels
  • Alek ManoahIR
    Expected return: May 15

Saturday marked Manoah's first game action since he lost a fingernail following a Cactus League start March 17. The right-hander had a rough spring prior to the injury and didn't fare any better in his initial rehab outing, so he'll likely need to show improvement in order to eventually claim a spot in the big-league rotation. Manoah did manage to toss 87 pitches in Saturday's start, so from a workload standpoint he seems pretty close to being fully ramped up.

  • Grayson RodriguezIR
    Expected return: May 15

Rodriguez continues to bump up his workload, as his previous throwing sessions consisted of three and then four simulated innings. The right-hander has yet to make his Angels debut because he landed on the IL with right shoulder inflammation in late March, but the fact that he's now beginning a proper rehab assignment could put him on track for a return from the shelf within the next couple of weeks.

  • Logan O'HoppeIR
    Expected return: May 18

O'Hoppe seems to be making significant strides in his recovery from a wrist fracture he suffered in late April, though he said the biggest test will be catching full bullpen sessions and hitting against velocity. It's unknown when the Angels plan to advance him to that stage in his rehab, though the team still likely plans to bring him back before the end of the month. Travis d'Arnaud will continue to work as the primary catcher until then.

  • Ryan JohnsonIR
    Expected return: May 15

A viral infection sent Johnson to the injured list April 6, and he later suffered a hamstring injury while making a start in extended spring training. The 23-year-old righty said Saturday that he's recovered from both issues and has been facing hitters at the Angels' complex in Arizona, per Jack Janes of TheSportingTribune.com, so his return date will depend on how quickly he can ramp up his workload.

  • Travis d'ArnaudIR
    Expected return: May 18

D'Arnaud had to leave Wednesday's game versus the White Sox with the injury, though it's unclear if it might have been bothering him previously. He joins Logan O'Hoppe (wrist) on the IL, leaving the Angels with Sebastian Rivero and Omar Martinez as their top two catchers.

  • Yusei KikuchiIR
    Expected return: Jul 2

The fact that the 34-year-old southpaw doesn't seem to need surgery makes it more likely that he returns before the end of the season, but it could still be a while before he appears on a big-league mound. The Angels plan to build Kikuchi up as a starter once he's cleared to begin a throwing program, and they may have a better picture of his return timeline once he progresses to that point.

  • Walbert UrenaDay-to-day
    Expected return: May 6

Urena looked impressive in his first start of the season against the Padres on April 19 after tossing six-plus innings of two-run ball with eight strikeouts, but he couldn't repeat that outing here. This time, Urena failed to consistently find the strike zone, as he tossed just 44 of his 81 pitches for strikes and was lifted before completing four innings. It remains to be seen if Urena will get another turn in the rotation, but this outing increased his ERA to 4.76. If Urena gets another start, he'd be tentatively lined up to face the Mets at home next weekend.
