Reds vs Mets

The transaction clears space on the 40-man roster for the addition of Tejay Antone, who was called up from Triple-A Louisville. Williamson landed on the 15-day IL last week with left shoulder fatigue and now won't be eligible for activation until late June.

Ferguson, who also threw Thursday, worked on back-to-back days for the Bats, which is typically a final box to be checked off for a reliever before coming off the injured list. The left-hander has made four appearances combined between Louisville and Double-A Chattanooga. The Reds' bullpen has fallen apart in May (8.47 ERA) and could use Ferguson as soon as possible.

Pagan aggravated a nagging hamstring issue on his first pitch of an appearance during Tuesday's 3-2 extra-inning loss to the Cubs and was placed on the 15-day injured list earlier Wednesday. With Pagan slated to miss at least a month of action, the Reds are likely to turn to Tony Santillan at closer, with Graham Ashcraft also potentially in the mix.

Reds manager Terry Francona noted Friday that Suarez's left oblique strain is about 50 percent better. Suarez will rest for a few days after Thursday's workout before ramping things back up. While the veteran slugger is improving, his return is not imminent. Nathaniel Lowe will continue to handle designated hitter duties for the Reds while Suarez is out.

Greene continues a slow ramp up while on the 60-day injured list after undergoing right elbow surgery in March. The Reds are targeting late May for the right-hander to throw a bullpen session, per MLB.com.

Lowder had to be lifted from Thursday's start versus the Cubs with right shoulder discomfort, but he's been cleared of structural damage and could throw a bullpen session as soon as Sunday if he responds well to the injection. A trip to the injured list remains a distinct possibility, but the Reds will not make a roster move with Lowder just yet.

After the three weeks are up, Lindor will have more imaging on his left calf to check his progress. He could resume baseball activities at that point if the Mets are satisfied with the MRI, but Lindor would be ramped back up slowly. It all points to a lengthy absence for the star shortstop, but more will be known about a timeline by mid-May. Ronny Mauricio is filling in at shortstop for the Mets in Lindor's stead.

Young reported discomfort in his left knee Tuesday, and further imaging revealed a more severe injury that will result in the 30-year-old undergoing surgery, per Will Sammon of The Athletic. It's a significant blow to the Mets' depth in the outfield, especially with Juan Soto (calf) still on the 10-day IL. Young is be looking at a lengthy absence depending on the extent of the surgery to repair the tear, which could have him sidelined until the summer.

The right-hander took the hill for the second appearance of his assignment, after he previously tossed a scoreless frame for Single-A St. Lucie on Saturday. Gerber shouldn't require much more additional time in the minors to prove his health after landing on the injured list April 14 due to a blister, but his activation could be delayed nonetheless if the Mets don't have a spot available for him in the big-league bullpen.

Polanco landed on the shelf in mid-April due to the wrist injury, but the Achilles issue has been problematic all season. The 32-year-old resumed baseball activities in late April and was viewed as week-to-week at that point, but it's unclear how much the flareup will push back his return timeline.

It's unclear when Hagenman sustained the injury, but his placement on the 60-day IL means that he won't be eligible to make his 2026 regular-season debut until at least late May. In a corresponding move to bolster the bullpen, the Mets claimed southpaw Richard Lovelady off waivers from the Nationals.

Senga appears to have responded well since receiving an epidural to treat his lumbar spine inflammation, which forced him to the injured list April 28. He was able to start throwing again Wednesday, nine days after receiving the injection. Senga has now taken another step forward by getting back on a mound, but he'll still need to face hitters in live batting practice and then likely complete a minor-league rehab assignment before returning from the 15-day injured list. Senga had posted a 9.00 ERA and 1.95 WHIP in five starts prior to landing on the shelf and may not be assured a rotation spot once he's activated.

The 28-year-old was shut down for 7-to-10 days after receiving an injection for a lumbar spine disc herniation in late April, and it's unclear when he'll be able to get back to baseball work. Robert is without a clear timeline for his return but is likely to be out for at least a couple more weeks since he'll need some time to ramp his activity back up.

New York hasn't issued a timeline for Mauricio's return, but after fracturing his left thumb while diving into first base during Saturday's 4-3 loss to the Angels, the young infielder will be surely miss more than the minimum 10 days. The Mets called up Vidal Brujan to provide another option at shortstop while Mauricio and Francisco Lindor (calf) are on the shelf, but Bo Bichette will start at the position in Sunday's series finale in Anaheim and could end up seeing the bulk of the playing time at that spot in the short term.

Herget was designated for assignment by the Mets in late September and became a free agent a few days later. He's now back with the club and will battle for a spot in the team's bullpen during spring training.
